MUNICH, Germany — Aiming at developers of automotive infotainment applications, board computer manufacturer Congatec AG (Deggendorf, Germany) has introduced a starter kit which includes Intel's Atom microprocessor. The kit is the result of a cooperation between Congatec, Xilinx and Wind River Systems.

The IVI (in-vehicle infotainment) starter kit contains a COM Express-compatible module which contains an entire PC including Atom 1.6GHz processor and US15W system controller hub chip. The processor board sits on top of a motherboard the size of a DIN radio plug-in. It integrates an FM radio receiver as well as Bluetooth circuitry. A Xilinx Spartan 3 FPGA contains a rich set of interfaces and logic such as APIX, CAN Bus, Ethernet, MOST bus and several others. An integrated graphics controller enables developers to support graphics-intensive applications such as navigation or rear-seat entertainment. The device also supports touchscreen-based user interfaces.

The software environment is completed by a set of demo applications from Wind River Systems.

The IVI kit includes a 7-inch LCDS touch panel, a WiFi board and a GPS receiver.
