iC-Haus : Sensor interface iC has two independent channels

Courtesy of EE Times Europe

iC-GF is a monolithic interface iC with two independent switching channels which enables digital sensors to drive peripheral elements, such as programmable logic controllers (PLC) and relays, for example. All functions are controlled either by pins or via SPI interface, with extended functionality and configurability in SPI mode.

The output switches can be configured for push-pull, high-side or low-side operation.

The switches are designed to cope with high driver currents of at least 100 mA, are current limited and also short-circuit-proof. The output current limit can be easily set with a resistor.

The protective overload feature is accomplished in a way so that capacitive loads can be switched with low repeat rates without the protective circuitry cutting in.

In SPI mode, the chip acts as an SPI slave and allows function configuration via register access. It also features a diagnostic register and supports communication requests at the feedback input, which generates an interrupt signal.

The connected sensor can be parameterized using the feedback channel.

The pins on the 24 V line side of the sensor interface are protected against reverse polarity. This makes any external reverse polarity protection diodes superfluous.

iC-GF features an integrated switching converter which generates 5 V and 3.3 V voltages with the aid of two downstream linear regulators. The switching regulator comes equipped with a spread spectrum oscillator to reduce interferences. The power supply range is from 9 to 30 V within a temperature range of –40 to 85 °C.

The QFN24 package is RoHS compliant and measures only 4 mm x 4 mm.

Introducing iC-Haus

iC-Haus GmbH is one of the leading independent German manufacturers of standard ICs (ASSP) and customized ASiC semiconductor solutions. The company has been active in the design, production and sales of application-specific iCs for industrial, automotive and medical technology since 1984 and is represented worldwide. The iC-Haus cell libraries in bipolar, CMOS and BCD technologies are fully equipped to realize the design of Sensor-ASiC, Laser-/Opto-ASiC and Actuator-ASiC devices.

The iCs are assembled either in standard plastic packages or using chip-on-board technology to manufacture complete microsystems, multichip modules or – in combination with sensors – optoBGAsTM.
